A Berlin man will serve more time in prison for a crime spree through Green Lake, Fond du Lac and Dodge Counties which included stealing multiple vehicles and car chases with authorities. Dodge County Circuit Court Judge Brian Pfitzinger sentenced 19 year old Maxwell Decker to 6 years in prison and 5 years extended supervision In November, Decker pleaded no contest to charges of burglary-arm self with a dangerous weapon, taking and driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent, and fleeing/eluding an officer in Dodge County. Also in November, Decker was sentenced to 3 years initial confinement and 3 years extended supervision in Green Lake County. The incident unfolded in August with a high speed chase in Fond du Lac County that ended when the stolen vehicle crashed in Dodge County. Decker fled on foot and stole another vehicle. Another pursuit ensued ending in a crash with Decker again fleeing on foot and eluding authorities. The investigation turned up a third vehicle stolen in Fond du Lac County. And the next morning, a Town of Trenton resident reported a firearm, ammunition, and a vehicle were stolen. Decker was eventually apprehended. Decker is also facing charges in Fond du Lac County, with a plea and sentencing hearing scheduled for April 1st.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
