The Dodge County Sheriff says in the last two and a half weeks detectives have investigated four suspected heroin overdose deaths. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says additional details are not being released at this time because they are ongoing investigations. Schmidt says its important for the community to be “aware of the seriousness of the epidemic that continues to grow and plague our community.” Schmidt says heroin overdoses are a daily problem that first responders and medical personnel are dealing with. Schmidt says the recent uptick may indicate that it is very possible that a “hot batch” or bad batch of heroin has hit the area.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
