The controversial Fruth Field artificial turf proposal comes before the Fond du Lac School Board Monday. The board is scheduled to discuss the matter during a workshop session following their regular meeting. In addition to artificial turf, plans call for updating lighting and sound systems and building a community pavilion. The track around the field would be removed. The school superintendent has proposed borrowing from the fund balance to pay for the project with a goal of raising the estimated $1.5 to $1.9 million through donations. A couple of people spoke in opposition to the plan at the last board meeting questioning the need, and pointing out the district still owes nearly a half million dollars for the new entryway at Fruth.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
