Oakfield Elementary School teacher Jodi Schmidt says when she got the idea to donate one of her kidneys to help a student there was never a doubt in her mind. Schmidt learned recently that she was a match to donate a kidney to help eight year old Natasha Fuller lead a normal life. “It’s really incredible,” Schmidt told WFDL news. “I think for a long time I’ve always felt that I want to do more. Teaching is incredible but there’s always been a part of me that thought you just need to do more for humanity.” Natasha was born with a kidney disease and doctors say she desparately needs a transplant. Schmidt says the idea of donating an organ sort of popped into her mind one day. Schmidt says Natasha is currently recovering from an infection and when she is strong enough doctors will schedule a date for the transplant. She says the school has been tremendously supportive of what she is doing.
