MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Unemployment rates rose in all of Wisconsin’s largest cities in January including Fond du lac. Preliminary data the state Department of Workforce Development released Wednesday shows unemployment rates in every one of the state’s 32 largest cities increased from December. Racine had the highest rate at 7.2 percent, up from 6 percent in December. Fitchburg had the lowest at 3.3 percent.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
