Two Fond du Lac elementary schools have been named Wisconsin Title One Schools of Recognition. Fond du Lac School superintendent, Dr. Jim Sebert, says Chegwin and Parkside Elementary Schools were among 169 schools recognized in Madison Monday. Sebert says the schools all have two things in common: high levels of poverty and successes in educating their students. State superintendent Tony Evers says the schools are examples of the academic success needed in all of our schools to close achievement gaps. The Wisconsin Title I School of Recognition awards highlight schools that have demonstrated success in educating students from low-income families. To be eligible, schools must receive federal Title I funding to provide services to large numbers or high percentages of economically disadvantaged children and meet other achievement criteria.
