4-12-16 walker signs crime victim bills

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walkerhas signed multiple bills expanding domestic abuse and other crime victims’ rights.  The bills would ensure victims have a right to an advocate; can learn when their offender’s parole has been revoked; give domestic abuse victims the right to transfer rights to their phone numbers from their abusers to themselves; and allow the state Justice Department to receive abuse, stalking and human trafficking victims’ mail to protect their addresses.  Other bills would extend the window for applying for compensation from one year to four and require sheriffs to help serve restraining orders.  Walker signed the bills Monday in Wausau, Green Bay and Madison.
