A public meeting will be held Thursday on a proposed turning lane at the intersection of State 23 and County Road K in the city of Fond du Lac. The meeting will begin at 5:15 p.m. at the U-W Fond du Lac. Staff from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Fond du Lac County and the city of Fond du Lac will be available to discuss the project. Fond du lac County Highway commissioner Tom Janke says temporary modifications will involve slotted, left turn lanes in the median, right turn islands on County K and removing the median crossover west of the intersection. Janke says motorists on K would no longer be able to turn left on 23 to get into the city. Janke says the changes will improve safety and traffic operations until an overpass can be constructed as part of the overall WIS 23 expansion project. That project is currently being held up by a lawsuit filed by the environmental group 1000 Friends of Wisconsin.
