ANTIGO, Wis. (AP) — The mother of a man accused of shooting two people at a Wisconsin prom says her son “wasn’t a monster.” Lorrie Wagner talked to The Associated Press briefly outside her home in Antigo on Monday. Police say her son, 18-year-old Jakob Wagner, shot and wounded two people with a rifle Saturday night before he was killed by police. Outside Antigo High School.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
