4-7-16 car fire-fdl

Nobody was injured in a car fire in Fond du Lac Thursday morning.  Fire chief Pete O’Leary says shortly after 9am Thursday firefighters were called to a report of a car on fire inside a detached two-car garage on 5th Street just east of Park Avenue.  O’Leary says the fire was contained to the car and was quickly extinguished.

4-7-16 fatal crash on hwy 23 in fdl

The victim of a two vehicle fatal crash east of Fond du Lac was a high school guidance counselor.   The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of the crash as 35 year old Matt Heinen.  Heinen was a guidance counselor at Fond du Lac High School and was driving to work when his car veered into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck an SUV.  Sheriff’s Lieutenant Jim Borgen says […]

4-7-16 public memorial service planned for former fdl police chief

A public memorial service will be held this weekend for longtime former Fond du Lac police chief and county board supervisor Mel Heller.  Heller died last Friday at the age of 90.  Heller joined the Fond du Lac police department in 1949 as a motorcycle patrolman.  He was promoted to detective in 1963 and was named acting chief in 1975.  He was appointed the permanent police chief in 1976 and served as chief until he […]

4-7-16 bloodstream infection cases in wisconsin may be slowing

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — An outbreak of a bloodstream infection may be slowing in Wisconsin.  The Wisconsin Department of Health Services said Wednesday that no new cases of the bacteria known as Elizabethkingia have been reported in the state in the last week.  The number of confirmed infections increased to 57 after one of two cases under investigation a week ago was confirmed.
