4-26-16 investigators say wayside tavern fire was arson

Investigators say a fire that destroyed a landmark Fond du Lac restaurant and tavern was arson.  The February 24th fire destroyed the Wayside Bar on West Division Street.  Investigators with the Fond du Lac Police Department, Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue and the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation/State Fire Marshal’s Office have determined the fire was intentionally set.   Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Lee Mikulec at (920)322-3726 or by […]

4-26-16 antigo shooter’s mother says her son “wasn’t a monster”

ANTIGO, Wis. (AP) — The mother of a man accused of shooting two people at a Wisconsin prom says her son "wasn't a monster." Lorrie Wagner talked to The Associated Press briefly outside her home in Antigo on Monday. Police say her son, 18-year-old Jakob Wagner, shot and wounded two people with a rifle Saturday night before he was killed by police. Outside Antigo High School.

4-26-16 fdl county treasurer not running for re-election

Fond du Lac County Treasurer Julie Hundertmark is not running for re-election.  County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says Hundertmark has filed a declaration of non-candidacy.  Hundertmark was appointed to the position in 2010 by the county board. She was elected to her first full term in 2012.  Town of Taycheeda Clerk and county board supervisor Brenda Schneider is the only announced candidate for the position.  The filing deadline is June first.   Meanwhile nobody has taken […]

4-26-16 fdl woman accused of helping sister dispose of body can take vacation if she posts cash bond

4-26-16 chronic wasting disease

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker says his administration plans to develop new chronic wasting disease tactics.  Test results last year show 9.4 percent of 3,133 deer were infected, the highest prevalence rate since the ailment was detected in Wisconsin in 2002.  The DNR initially called for thinning the herd as much as possible to stop the disease's spread but hunters never bought in. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Dane County judge has refused to stay his ruling striking down Wisconsin's right-to-work law.  Judge William Foust found the law unconstitutional earlier this month, ruling it amounts to an illegal taking on union services without compensation. (AP) — A group of states has filed its opening brief in a federal lawsuit challenging the Obama administration's new ozone limits.  The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency tightened the limits on ozone, a smog-forming pollutant linked to asthma and respiratory illness, to 70 parts per billion in October.
