This year is the 150th anniversary of Memorial Day. The 2016 Rosendale Memorial Day commemoration will include the dedication of a new stone at the Rosendale Veterans Memorial. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. in the Rosendale Intermediate School south gymnasium. The 2016 Poppy Princess and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Merit Citation winner will be announced. Also, winners of the Memorial Day Essay Contest and Poster Contest will be revealed. Following the ceremony and weather permitting, local organizations including the VFW, Scouts, 4-H, Lions Club and the Laconia High School Band will march to the cemetery to conduct closing ceremonies at the Veterans Memorial. Everyone is invited to bring flowers to decorate graves.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
