Area law enforcement agencies are mobilizing to enforce the state’s mandatory seatbelt law. The click it or ticket campaign starts Monday and runs through June 5th. Fond du Lac County sheriff’s captain Rick Olig says the goal is to get people to buckle up every time they drive or ride in a vehicle. Although the state’s safety belt use rate of 86 percent is the highest ever, approximately half of the drivers and passengers killed in Wisconsin traffic crashes last year were not wearing safety belts. Olig says in the past two years, seven of the 22 people who lost their lives on Fond du Lac County roads were not wearing their seat belts.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
