A Fond du Lac County committee is recommending a replacement to fill a vacancy on the Fond du Lac County Board. The county committee on committees is recommending the board appoint town of Taycheeda resident John Rickert to fill the seat vacated when Brenda Schneider was elected county treasurer. Committee member and county board chairman Marty Farrell says all of the six applicants were impressive. Farrell says Rickert stands out in part because of his municipal government experience. The county board is expected to approve the appointment at their meeting Tuesday evening.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
