1-24-17 fdl school district interpretors and translators

todayJanuary 24, 2017

The Fond du Lac School Board is discussing whether the district should hire its own translators and interpreters.   The issue was raised at a recent school board meeting by an interpreter who expressed concern that he was getting paid just $11 an hour.   Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says the district currently contracts with ManPower Inc. to hire interpreters.  “A lot of districts do what we do in contracting out.  Different districts have different levels of interpretors and translators in terms of what the expectation is,”  Sebert said.    Sebert says the school board has to decide how much money the District can afford.  The School Board discussed the matter at a workshop session last month and again at Monday evening’s meeting.
