The wife of a Fond du Lac police officer and her friend are organizing a community campaign to show support for local police. Lori Gutzmann is the wife of Fond du Lac police captain Jon Gutzmann. Gutzman and her friend Tina Tollard are organizing a campaign to give away “Thin Blue Line” wristbands to the public. Tollard is the Children’s director at Ascension Lutheran Church and says its important for police to know the public supports them. “Especially with everything you see in the news lately I think they (police officers) need to know that we’ve got their back,” Tollard told WFDL news. Tollard and Gutzmann say police were uplifted recently when a local resident showed up at the police station carrying a sign with a positive message. A kick off for the wristband campaign will be held on Sunday February 12th at Ascension Lutheran Church. Gutzmann says area businesses who would like a box of the wristbands to distribute to the public can call the church at 922-3353.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
