A Fond du Lac man accused of kicking a cat because it knocked over a lamp has been charged. Thirty two year old Preston Buck is charged with mistreatment of animals as a repeat offender. According to a criminal complaint Buck told police he kicked the cat across the room after it knocked over a lamp, slamming the cat against a bathroom wall. Buck was not the owner of the cat. The cat was euthanized by the Fond du Lac County Humane Society. Judge Robert Wirtz set bail at $75 cash. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 3rd.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
