2-1-17 fdl school superintendent-public school funding

todayFebruary 1, 2017

The Fond du Lac School superintendent says he’s encouraged with recent news that public schools may be getting more funding in the next state budget.  Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says he’s hopeful based on higher collection forecasts and promises by Governor Scott Walker that more money is coming.  Sebert says the question is whether the legislature raises funding in a way that allows the money to be spent in the classrooms rather than be forced into lowering property taxes.  Other likely education issues this session include allowing the statewide private school voucher program to grow more rapidly, addressing teacher shortage and improving mental health services in schools.
