The public is invited to a send off ceremony for a Fond du Lac police pffocer who is being deployed to active duty. Officer James Darnell, is a sergeant with the Wisconsin Army National Guard whose unit has been activated and is deploying to Afghanistan. Officer Darnell has served the Fond du Lac Police Department for three years and has served as a member of the United States Army and Wisconsin Army National Guard for six and a half years. The ceremony will be held at the City of Fond du Lac Police Department on Wednesday, February 01, 2017, at 4:30PM.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
