The Fond du Lac County executive says he is pleased the governor plans to add more money to the state budget for counties. The governor delivered his budget address to the state legislature Wednesday afternoon. It includes funding to eliminate the waiting list for long term supports for children with developmental, physical or severe emotional disabilities. “It was very good news. It was good to hear the governor recognizes that we have these issues,” Fond du Lac County executive Al Buechel told WFDL news. Buechel says he’s also pleased to hear the governor’s budget includes more money to support nursing homes and foster care.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
