Reaction to the governor’s proposed state budget is generally mixed along party lines with Republicans praising the plan and Democrats having a more skeptical view. Republican state senator Dan Feyen of Fond du lac says he liked what he heard. Feyen says initially he can’t think of anything he disagrees with in the governor’s proposal. “We’re doing a deep dive into the budget to make sure we know all the details,” Feyen told WFDL news. State senate minority leader Jennifer Shilling says the governor is making up for cuts in previous budgets. “Many of these cuts forced upon local governments and school districts and the university, that’s the result of governor Walker’s past budget’s,” Shilling told WFDL news. When it comes to transportation Shilling says even some Republican lawmakers have a problem with the governor’s opposition to raising the gas tax or registration fees. Feyen says he does like the governor’s plan to cut UW tuition and to provide more money to the UW system. “I think giving more money to the higher education system is a good thing. Lowering the cost of college education is always good.”
