The second annual Sturgeon Spectacular gets underway Friday evening in Fond du Lac. The event is tied in with the sturgeon spearing season on Lake Winnebago featuring a variety of family-friendly activities. Fond du Lac convention and visitors bureau director Craig Molitor says a kick-off party will be held from 5-8pm Friday evening at the THELMA Sadoff Center for the arts and a new after-party at the Lakeside Park pavilion. New this year is “Guys on Ice”…a broadway-style musical about ice fishing. Ten teams will compete in the Wisconsin Snow Sculpting competition. “They start afternoon Friday. We’re constructing these massive blocks of snow, about half the size of your studio,” Molitor told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program. Other events include ice-skating, the 28th annual Sturgeon Stampede, a chili crawl in downtown Fond du Lac Saturday, a bonfire on the ice Saturday evening and fireworks Saturday night. A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
