The joint Steering Committee leading the consolidation of the Association of Commerce and the Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation has hired a transition director. Association of Commerce Board president, Tom Schneider, says David Omachinski of Oshkosh has been named to the post. Schneider says Omachinski will work with the steering committee to construct an organizational structure for the new, combined organization. Schneider says Omachinski is an executive management consultant, with decades of experience in providing executive and financial consulting services as well as merger and acquisition support for businesses. Schneider says a national search for a new CEO for the organization is underway with the hope of hiring someone by April or May.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
