3-6-17 fdl city council to consider amusement rides proposal for walleye weekend

todayMarch 5, 2017

Fond du lac Festivals is proposing a county fair-style Midway featuring amusement rides, games and food trailers at Walleye Weekend.   Under the proposal Fond du lac Festivals would hire Spectrum Entertainment of Ironwood, Michigan to run the Midway.  The Fond du lac Advisory Park Board is recommending approval of the request for a one year trial period.  Parks superintendent John Redmond says the Midway would be located in a grassy area at the end of Doty Street and Frazier Drive near Frazier Point.  Redmond says the rides would not duplicate the existing park rides.   “They are proposing four to five larger rides,  4-6 smaller rides and 15-20 games like you would see at the Fair and two possible food trailers,”  Redmond told WFDL news.   Redmond says he supports the idea, but says there are some potential concerns including possible damage to the grassy area, competition among charitable groups’ food stands and changing the overall feel of Walleye Weekend.    The city council will consider the request at their meeting this week.
