Three Fond du Lac residents are accused of leaving a harmess on their pet dog for so long it became embedded in the animal’s body. Amy Shaw and Daniel Eisenach made their initial Fond du Lac court appearance this week on charges of mistreatment of animals. Amanda Muellenbach is charged with aiding a felon. According to a criminal complaint a Fond du Lac woman purchased the Pit Bull mix on Facebook as a Christmas present for her family and noticed an infected gash on the dog. Muellenbach said she and the two owners would pay the vet bills if the woman didn’t call police, according to the complaint. All three defendants say they did not abuse the animal and kept the harness on the dog because they could not catch him in the backyard. A veterinarian said the harness must have been placed on the dog when he was a puppy and the dog’s growth made the harness embedded. Fond du Lac Animal Shelter manager Renee Webb says the dog has been treated and has recovered.
