Fond du Lac school officials hope construction work can begin the day after graduation on replacing the high school field house gym floor. Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says less than 20 years after it was first installed the floor is failing and needs to be replaced at a cost of more than $300,000. The school board gave the okay during a workshop session this week. The school district has already spent about $70,000 replacing damaged flooring over the last 13 years. The school board says it wasn’t made aware of that until the issue of replacing the floor came before the board this year. Sebert says the new floor should last the life of the building.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
