Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue officials say an Acer e-reader that caught on fire this week at Roberts Elementary School in Fond du lac appears to be an isolated incident. Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase says a teacher noticed an odor and found smoke coming from the tablet. The area was cleared. Haase says the device was not being charged or used and the fire was apparently the result of spontaneous combustion. Haase says the Fire Department has contacted the Department of Consumer Protection and has filed a complaint with the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
