The Fond du Lac police chief says the Department never lost its focus to protect the community during an investigation and subsequent court action involving a former police officer. Chief Bill Lamb made the comments on AM 1170’s Between the Lines program after the Fond du lac Police and Fire Commission last week dismissed a charge filed by the former Fond du lac County District Attorney accusing Lamb of perjury and misconduct during the investigation of former officer Curt Beck. “We believe they were preemptive to the charges that we were going to be filing against an officer that had been reinstated after a court ruling,” Lamb told WFDL news. “We believe the charges that they filed were completely without merit and we were confident a hearing before the police and fire commission would ultimately set the record straight.” Beck was one of five Fond du Lac police officers who were involved in extra marital affairs that prompted an investigation in 2014. The commission fired Beck last fall for dishonesty. Beck’s attorney, former DA Dan Kaminsky, pursued the case on his own accusing the chief of lying under oath during a deposition. Lamb says the police department was not distracted by the legal dispute. “I don’t care how big or small your department is, there are always potential distractions and crisis that we just have to deal with,” Lamb said. “The trademark of excellent organizations versus mediocre organizations is the excellent ones, the city of Fond du lac Police Department being one of them, those organizations have the ability to stay focused and disciplined on their mission and the leaders being strong enough to do what’s right.”
