The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation following a high speed chase that ended in Waupun this week. Twenty two year old Matthew Ellcey fled following a traffic stop on Highway 49, dragging a sheriff’s Lieutenant for a short distance as he fled, and later crashed his vehicle in downtown Waupun and fled on foot. He was apprehended a couple hours later at a friend’s house. The officer received minor injuries. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says Ellcey is expected to face additional charges.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
