3-28-17 fdl solutions center director concerned about trump budget cuts

todayMarch 27, 2017

The director of the Fond du Lac Solutions Center says she is concerned about a Trump administration budget proposal to eliminate Community Development block grants.  The Solutions Center provides shelter and outreach for homeless people and domestic violence victims.  Nicole Johnson says the Solutions Center currently receives about $10,000 a year in Community Development Block grants.  Johnson says in addition to potentially losing community development block grants, the center could also lose Family, Violence Service grant money.  Johnson says she disagrees with president Trump that the Community Block grant program doesn’t work.  Johnson says the money is very important to her program.  “Its always incredibly concerning to any non-profit at the idea of losing any streamline funding that you really depend on,”  Johnson told WFDL news.  “Its always unfortunately a risk when you’re in this type of business but it really is concerning.  We would have to either make up those costs somehow or we would need to look at what programs would need to be cut.”
