The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says a malfunction caused the tornado sirens on the city’s southside to sound inadvertently Wednesday afternoon. People may have heard the sirens at around 2pm Wednesday. Sheriff’s captain Ryan Waldschmidt says there was a malfunction that caused the sirens to sound and that an electrician was called to correct the problem.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
