4-28-17 milk dispute-fdl county dairy farmers

todayApril 27, 2017

The Fond du Lac County Dairy and Livestock extension agent says at least two of the four dairy farms in Fond du Lac County impacted by a milk dispute with Canada have found new buyers.  Dozens of Wisconsin dairy farmers face going out of business after a change in Canada’s domestic pricing policy evaporated demand for U.S. milk including four in Fond du Lac County.  Extension agent Tina Coleman says Dodge County may be hardest hit with about 20 farms impacted.  Meanwhile, Coleman says Governor Walker’s announcement of providing amended loan guarantees to dairy farmers and processors with more favorable terms won’t help farms who face going out of business next week.  She says that’s not a short term solution.
