Following a successful referendum last fall, a series of groundbreaking events start this week on Waupun School District building projects. Superintendent Tanya Gubin says the first project will be a new athletic complex at the junior-senior high school. Gubin says groundbreaking for the athletic complex will be held on Wednesday May 3rd at the Waupun Junior-Senior High School. Groundbreaking will be held Monday May 15th at Meadow View Primary School and Thursday May 25th at the SAGES school in Fox Lake. Waupun School District residents approved the $36 million referendum last fall.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
