5-3-17 fdl family physician named “super hero” of medicine

Dr. Heather Schmidt says she doesn’t think of  herself as a superhero.  The Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation recently honored the Fond du Lac family physician with the Superhero of Medicine Award during its annual fundraising dinner and silent auction.  Dr. Schmidt also serves as Agnesian Healthcare’s health and wellness medical director.  She says mental and physical health go hand in hand.  “It comes all down to your mental health,”  Dr. Schmidt told WFDL news.  “You have to be emotionally, socially and spiritually well in order to make good health decisions.”  Dr. Schmidt says if you feel good about yourself and your life, you are more likely to take care of yourself physically.  In addition to patient care, Dr. Schmidt has been instrumental in leading Healthy Fond du Lac County 2020 efforts, the Fond du Lac Walk with a Doc program and the Total Living program.  She also co-facilitates the Medical Society’s leading Healty Work Systems leadership program.   That program is designed to support physicians in transforming their work life to better serve patients and enjoy a more balanced and rewarding life as a doctor.
