5-9-17 laconia high school junior prom made special for two students with down syndrome

todayMay 9, 2017

The Laconia High School Junior Prom was made special for two students who were born with Down Syndrome thanks to the prom king.  When 16 year old Jacob Reigel learned that he and classmate Heather Leitz were nominated for prom court… it was an easy call to ask her to prom.  The two have known each other their entire lives, and Jacob says his mom babysat for Heather, who was born with Down syndrome.  “I made a sign in the middle of my chemistry class and I stuck the sign up on the board and waited for her to come in and as soon as she came in that’s when she saw the sign.  She had a big old grin on her face,”  Reigel told WFDL news.  At the prom dance this past weekend, Jacob had another surprise up his sleeve.  Riegel handed his crown to another student with Down Syndrome, Ricky Gilgenbach.  “He deserved it way more than I do,”  Reigel said.  Reigel says Gilgenbach  makes everybody at the school “ten times happier.”
