Dozens of law enforcement members and the public gathered at Hamilton Park near downtown Fond du lac Thursday to pay tribute to officers who have been killed in the line of duty.  The Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony was held Thursday as part of National Police Week .   Police Chief Bill Lamb says four law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty in the city of Fond du Lac.  Officer William Prinslow was killed in 1898 and officer Nick Klaske was shot and killed in 1961.  More recently, Lamb says officer Craig Birkholz was shot and killed six years ago and state patrol trooper Trevor Casper was shot and killed in 2015.  “There were 143 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in the United States last year,”  Lamb told the crowd.  “That number represents about a 15 percent increase over the 123 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in 2015.”   Lamb the nation needs to be doing more  “to help protect the brave men and women to ensure that each and every one of them go home safe at the end of their watch.”
