Two separate fires Sunday destroyed a garage in the town of Ripon and damaged the kitchen of a home near Mt. Calvary. Firefighters were called to a residence on County Road E in the town of Ripon where a fire that started in a burn barrel spread to a nearby garage, destroying the garage. Nobody was injured. A Mount Calvary firefighter was treated and released from the hospital for injuries sustained in fighting a fire that destroyed the kitchen at the Mark and Susan Steffes home on South Shore Lane. A faulty electrical cord on the stove is apparently to blame.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
