The state Department of Workforce Development says half of the state’s 32 largest municipalities and 61 percent of Wissconsin counties reached historic low unemployment rates during any April. The city of Fond du Lac’s unemployment rate dropped from three percent in March to two-point-six percent in April. Fond du lac county’s unemployment rate fell six-tenths of a percent to 2.4 percent. The April unemployment rate in Dodge County stands at 2.7 percent, down from 3.5 percent the month before.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
