6-14-17 national weather service confirms tornado in town of osceola

todayJune 14, 2017

The National Weather Service says a severe thunderstorm spawned a weak tornado in Fond du Lac County Monday night.  After surveying the damage Tuesday the National Weather Service has determined an EF 0 tornado touched down in the town of Osceola in eastern Fond du Lac County.  Fond du lac County emergency management director Bobbi Hicken says the determination backs up eyewitness accounts.  “Osceola also did sustain damage from straight line winds, but there’s one specific area that there’s evidence there was a tornado,”  Hicken told WFDL news.  An EF0 tornado packs winds of 80 miles an hour.  Hicken says even though a tornado warning wasn’t issued residents were given plenty of warning because the tornado sirens were sounded.  She says the sirens sounded at about 6:45pm Monday and the tornado touched down at about 7:20pm.  Hicken says damage in the western half of the county was caused by strong straight line winds.  Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies responded to more than 50 downed Trees and 29 downed power lines.
