The head of the Wisconsin teachers union says school funding and a teacher shortage are the top issues facing public education in Wisconsin.  President of the Wisconsin Education Association Council Ron Martin says he supports governor Scott Walker’s proposed budget that gives more money to K-12 public education.  Martin says its disappointing that Republican lawmakers can’t seem to come to an agreement on funding.  “The last seven years we’ve seen cut, cut, cut and we can’t go any more without something breaking in our public schools.  We need what governor Walker proposed,”  Martin told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.  Martin says its also concerning that so many experienced teachers are leaving the field.  He says proposed cuts in Medicaid would have a devastating impact on many students in Wisconsin.   Martin made the comments on AM 1170’s Between the Lines program. He is in Boston this week for the annual National Education Association annual meeting.
