todayJune 29, 2017

One of two Fond du Lac residents accused of  leaving a harness on their pet dog for so long it became embedded in the animal’s body has been placed on probation.  Fond du Lac judge Peter Grimm ordered 42 year old Amy Shaw spend five days in jail followed by two years probation.  Shaw was also ordered to perform 30 hours of community service.  Shaw pleaded no contest to party to the crime mistreatment of animals and disorderly conduct.  According to a criminal complaint a Fond du Lac woman purchased the Pit Bull mix on Facebook as a Christmas present for her family and noticed an infected gash on the dog.    According to the complaint a veterinarian said the harness must  have been placed on the dog when he was a puppy and the dog’s growth made the harness embedded.  Fond du Lac Animal Shelter Manager Renee Webb says the dog has since recovered and is living with a new owner.  Webb says unfortunately she has seen other pet dogs at the shelter with similar circumstances.  A plea and sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 31st  for another co-owner of the dog, Daniel Eisenbach on charges of mistreatment of animals.
