The American Red Cross-Wisconsin Chapter is making an emergency call for donations. Red Cross spokesperson Laura McGuire says there is a critical shortage of all blood types. McGuire says blood donations have fallen short of expectations the past two months, resulting in about 61,000 fewer donations than needed. McGuire says the shortage is equivalent of not collecting any blood donations for more than four days. She says overall, the summer months are among the most challenging times of the year for blood. Blood donation clinics are being held this month at several locations in Dodge and Fond du Lac counties.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
