The Fond du Lac County Fair is in full swing and continues through this weekend. For the first time there is no admission to get into the fair. “There’s no charge to come and see the fair,” Fairboard treasurer Matt Immel said. “…walk around the 4-H buildings, come out and get a bite to eat. There’s a five dollar charge to park if you want to park on the grounds. If you want to see the shows in the grandstand there’s a charge for each one.” Country music star Martina McBride performs at the grandstand tonight. New events this year include a min-rodeo held Thursday night, and a lion and tiger show. The demo derby will be held Sunday afternoon.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
