7-20-17 former nursing home administrator honored

A former nursing home administrator is being remembered for her compassionate care and advocacy for the elderly.  The late Nancy Steinke of Fond du lac was recently recognized with the 2017 Distinguished Alumnus award from Moraine Park Technical College.  Longtime friend Mary Cody nominated Steinke for the award shortly before Steinke passed away last year.  Steinke graduated from Moraine Park in 1`975 with a diploma as a licensed practical nurse.  […]

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker has signed into law a bill that won bipartisan support in the Legislature requiring private schools in Wisconsin's voucher program to conduct employee background checks.  Walker signed the bill making mostly technical changes for the state's voucher schools on Wednesday.  The new law eliminates academic benchmarks the voucher schools must currently meet. LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — The Kwik Trip convenience store chain is acquiring a competing company also based in Wisconsin.  Kwik Trip, of La Crosse, has signed an agreement to acquire PDQ, a Middleton company that operates 34 convenience stores in southeastern Wisconsin.
