8-17-17 fdl republican lawmaker says foxconn deal benefits outweigh the potential risk

todayAugust 17, 2017

The state assembly is scheduled to vote Thursday on an economic incentive package for Foxconn.    The state is proposing three billion dollars in incentives for the Taiwanese company.    Republican state representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt of Fond du Lac says the  benefits of this project will far outweigh any negatives that may be associated with it.  Thiesfeldt compares the Foxconn deal to the economic incentive package several years ago that kept Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac, only on a mega-scale. Thiesfeldt says he believes any opposition at this point is political.  “On the one hand you got these people complaining about out-migration but then when we try to do something to solve the problem then they complain about what we’re tying to do to solve it,”  Thiesfeldt told WFDL news.  “Much of the talk against this project is just simply because people don’t want to have Scott Walker to have a win.  Its as simple as that.”
