Dozens of Red Cross volunteers from Wisconsin are in Texas to help assist victims of Hurricane Harvey. Disaster program manager with the northeast Wisconsin chapter of the Red Cross, Nick Cluppert, nearly 50 volunteers responded before the hurricane made landfall and more will be going in the days and weeks ahead. “We expect additonal shelters will be needed in the coming days so we’re looking to ramp up our response with more shelter workers and people to help with feeding operations,” Cluppert told WFDL news. Cluppert says Wisconsin residents who want to help should make cash donations to the Red Cross or other organizations in lieu of personal items like food and clothing.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
