8-30-17 hurricane harvey

todayAugust 30, 2017

A National Weather Service meteorologist in Wisconsin says the flooding devastation from Hurricane Harvey is “astounding.”   More than 50 inches of rain has fallen in some places as the system stalls over southeast Texas and Louisiana.   Meteorologist Sean Miller says warm water in the Gulf of Mexico intensified the rainfall and a lack of winds in the upper atmosphere resulted in the storm stalling over land.  “From the perspective of a meteorologist we look at models from days out and saw these really high (rain) totals and sometimes when you’re dealing with the future it may not come to pass and we just saw the forecast and it would get higher and higher,”  Miller told AM 1170 WFDL’s  Between the Lines program.  “It was really just astounding to see it actually play out.”
