A North Fond du Lac man convicted of child abuse for severely injuring a toddler has received a long prison sentence. At a hearing Friday Fond du Lac judge Gary Sharpe sentenced Jason Schifelbine to 15 years in prison followed by ten years of extended supervision. Schifelbine was found guilty of Physical Abuse Of A Child: Intentionally Causing Great Bodily Harm. In August of 2014 an unconscious 13 month old child was flown by Flight for Life helicopter to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. A forensic pediatrician testified at trial that the injuries sustained by the child were highly unusual and provided strong indications of suspected child abuse.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
