Nobody was injured in a fire that destroyed a garage in Fond du Lac. Firefighters were called to the scene at 515 Chestnut Street shortly after 5pm Monday to find a detached garage heavily involved in fire. Fire chief Pete O’Leary says the fire was quickly brought under control but not before it caused extensive damage to the structure. O’Leary says the fire started when the resident placed a charcoal grill in the garage before it was completely cooled. The grill was inadvertently placed too close to combustible materials which caught fire. “This fire should remind us all of the proper way to store grills and the ashes,” O’Leary said. “Even though a grill or ashes may seem cool, you should wait at least 72 hours before discarding ashes or storing a grill away inside the garage.
