9-7-17 school safety

todaySeptember 7, 2017

The Fond du Lac Fire chief says a car versus bike accident on the first day of  school this week is a reminder that motorists need to slow down and pay attention, because children often are not.   Fire chief Pete O’Leary says a 14 year old girl biking home from school Tuesday was transported to the hospital with luckily only minor injuries when she was struck by a car at the intersection of Johnson and Seymour Streets.  “Some of these kids are riding bicycles, maybe this is the first time they have ventured out to and back from school,”  O’Leary told WFDL news.  “They don’t always know where they’re going, they get distracted easily.  Drivers need to be very alert and drive defensively.”   O’Leary says parents should insist their children wear bike helmets.
